Se o fluido dos trav\u00f5es for aquecido acima do seu ponto de ebuli\u00e7\u00e3o, formam-se bolhas de g\u00e1s no sistema de travagem. Estas bolhas actuam como almofadas de ar no sistema de travagem, impedindo a transmiss\u00e3o direta de for\u00e7a entre o cilindro principal e o trav\u00e3o da roda. Isto, por sua vez, reduz a efici\u00eancia da travagem e pode mesmo levar a uma perda total da pot\u00eancia de travagem. Para evitar esta situa\u00e7\u00e3o, o ponto de ebuli\u00e7\u00e3o seco de um l\u00edquido dos trav\u00f5es quase anidro situa-se entre 240 e 280 graus Celsius.<\/p>\n<p>No entanto, os l\u00edquidos dos trav\u00f5es t\u00eam propriedades higrosc\u00f3picas. Por isso, tendem a absorver \u00e1gua do ar ambiente ao longo do tempo, especialmente atrav\u00e9s das mangueiras dos trav\u00f5es, cuja porosidade \u00e9 sempre m\u00ednima. A \u00e1gua no l\u00edquido dos trav\u00f5es reduz o seu ponto de ebuli\u00e7\u00e3o, que para a maioria dos l\u00edquidos dos trav\u00f5es dispon\u00edveis no mercado se situa entre 140 e 180 graus Celsius. Desde que o teor de \u00e1gua de um l\u00edquido dos trav\u00f5es n\u00e3o exceda cerca de tr\u00eas por cento, a \u00e1gua permanece completamente dissolvida no l\u00edquido e n\u00e3o se formam bolhas. No entanto, se o fluido contiver demasiada \u00e1gua, o efeito de corros\u00e3o \u00e9 acentuado. Se a corros\u00e3o for grave, todo o sistema de travagem tem de ser substitu\u00eddo. A melhor forma de evitar estes danos por corros\u00e3o \u00e9 verificar e substituir regularmente o l\u00edquido dos trav\u00f5es. Em qualquer caso, o l\u00edquido dos trav\u00f5es de um ve\u00edculo deve ser substitu\u00eddo, o mais tardar, de dois em dois anos.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Liquido_dos_travoes_rotulagem\"><\/span>L\u00edquido dos trav\u00f5es: rotulagem<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Enquanto os l\u00edquidos dos trav\u00f5es utilizados no passado eram quase exclusivamente \u00e0 base de \u00f3leo mineral, os l\u00edquidos dos trav\u00f5es modernos s\u00e3o geralmente \u00e0 base de poliglic\u00f3is. Para algumas aplica\u00e7\u00f5es espec\u00edficas, s\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m utilizados fluidos de trav\u00f5es \u00e0 base de silicone. Os l\u00edquidos para trav\u00f5es DOT 4, que s\u00e3o quimicamente baseados em glicol, est\u00e3o particularmente difundidos, enquanto o DOT 5.1 \u00e9 utilizado para motores de alto desempenho, por exemplo, em desportos motorizados. O DOT 5 tem uma base de silicone.
